Rapid City Medical Center was happy to support the 11th Annual “An Evening Made for Shade” wine tasting dinner and silent auction on June 14, 2017. Over 150 people attended this year's event in support of Made for Shade, a non-profit organization founded by Skin Institute at Rapid City Medical Center dermatologist Lycia Scott-Thornburg, MD. The organization raises funds to provide shade structures to protect local children from the sun’s dangerous rays. The dinner and auction, which took place at the Rushmore Plaza Holiday Inn, raised funds for next year’s grants through ticket sales, sponsorships, auction items and raffle ticket sales, making this the foundation’s most successful event to date.

Rapid City Medical Center, LLP and The Endoscopy Center, Inc. will be hosting a 5K Run/Walk for colon cancer awareness on March 11, 2017 in Founders Park. The Bottoms Up 5K aims to increase awareness of colon cancer and to raise funds for early detection and prevention. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society’s “80% by 2018” initiative. While colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in the U.S. among combined genders, early detection and removal of precancerous polyps saves lives. The goal is to make sure that 80% of all adults over the age of 50 are following screening guidelines.
